Winslow, Arizona

Do you know the Eagles Song, “Take it Easy?”

It mentions “Standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona”. We visited Meteor Crater in Arizona and we were near Winslow. My husband decided to pull the trigger on this and go for it. It is about 18 miles East of Meteor Crater

If you remember the Movie “Cars” Winslow has a reminiscent feel of Radiator Spring.s Filmore’s home looks a lot like the dome at Meteor City.

Unfortunately, many of the buildings have boards on the windows and doors. Just like the movie “Cars”, I40 obviously did have a devastating effect on the town. The only hopping thing about the town is the statue.

We had put the music on for the kids and let them hear it, and then went to see the statue. I don’t think they really got the significance of it. But, when we talked about the movie “Cars”, it seemed to click. Every generation has their own thing!

We selfied it up!

The town has less than 10,000 residents, so you aren’t getting a vibrant city. There are some small restaurants right near the corner, and of course, a gift shop. One even had a Lightning McQueen painted on the window.

Cute little mural on the side of Bojos Grill and Sports Club on Old Highway 66 and N Warren Ave.

It is on old Route 66 (if you remember the movie Cars, it Winslow is a perfect town that is reminiscent of a town built for route 66 that was forgotten when the Interstate went through).

Much of the town is boarded up. It is sadly pretty run down when you get off of the interstate, and you can see that the I40 did have devastating affects on the town. The only hopping thing about the town is the statue.

Winslow isn’t a really family friendly destination, but if you are in the area, are a fan of doing something different and want to say you have “been there, done that”, it is something to do.

There is also a huge “RT 66” in the middle of the road, which I didn’t get a great picture of, but it is on the corner of N Kinsley Ave and Old Hwy 66.
