White Tank Branch Library

IMG_2403I decided to take my three kiddos to check out the White Tank Branch Library last week. We arrived at the library at 9:45 (they open at 10:00), but luckily the Nature Center/Gift Shop was open so we took a look. Inside were snake “aquariums” with snakes that are native to the area. The staff posts the times that snake feeding occurs so you can watch (or not). There were also pictures of the native wildlife as well. Some of the featured wildlife were: bobcats, road runners (beep beep!) and coyotes. I guess the “roadrunner” cartoons could have been based on this area.

We also took a walk around the outside of the building since we had a few minutes. It was absolutely stunning. I am amazed by cacti and find them beautiful. My four year old loved asking questions about them as well. We also saw a few signs on the trail, one being of utmost importance.

In the back of the library there is an amphitheater (I’m not sure what programs it is used for, but there were electrical plugs nearby!)

IMG_2391We walked back to the library and it was opening time! We passed a restroom at the very front entrance (which was open at 8 am!) and the Friends of the Library Bookstore. We did not enter either as Munchie was very excited to check out the library.

The Library has one huge room for all of the books. It is very spacious, with huge windows showing the gorgeous scenery. The children’s area was off to the right and had a fun train/car table, dramatic play area with a “house”, seating, tables with puzzles and lots of books and videos.

We also found out that there was a class that my kids could go to, so that was exciting! But, before we went into the class, we checked out the “family bathroom” that was conveniently located in the children’s section. In the bathroom was an adult toilet, a child sized toilet, a changing station and a sink that was convenient for Munchie to wash his hands without having to have a step stool. Score for the library!

IMG_2395We went into the activities room (right next to the bathroom!) and joined the class. It was a lot of fun for my three kiddos! The door does close a few minutes after the class starts, so make  sure you are on time ! And, if the door is closed, make sure your kids don’t try to walk through the window right next to the door. My Munchie decided to try that out, and it didn’t work out so well for him.

After the class, we checked out a few movies. The library has a great selection of kids movies and TV shows, which was excellent. You can even do a self check out for the items you borrow. There is also a drop off in the front of the library and one that you can drive up to! Great for moms who need to drop and run!
