Our Park Series has been leading us to Peoria lately, so we (well, I) decided to try Westgreen Park in Peoria. Its on 8555 N 87th Avenue, just south of Olive, making it about a 25 minute ride from Surprise.
It had been super windy by our house, so we were dodging tumbleweeds on our way there, but luckily the park was not windy at all!
The park is a good size and there is a little bit of parking, but not a ton. I can see it getting very busy during the March time frame. Luckily, there are wide roads around the area in a very residential neighborhood, so parking on the street wouldn’t be too much of a problem.
There is also a restroom (very basic) but good if you are potty training!
And of course, the most important thing, the playground! The “turf” here is artificial grass. It didn’t have a lot of give and wearing shorts in the summer may give a little grass burn if you go down the slide too fast.
But, it was a covered park. If you haven’t noticed a theme around here (or are just reading this as your first post by me), I LOVE covered playgrounds!
A little dramatic play area underneath the big slide, with a steering wheel.
And a few slides for the little ones, a crawling tunnel..
plus some swings (two baby, two big kid). And these were under the shade too! There was even some climbing features for the bigger kids that they would love.
Tennis courts and grassy areas plus benches for us adults to sit on were available too. (I wish I got a chance!)
This park was really a nice find in a quiet neighborhood. It was right next to Cotton Boll Elementary School, so I am guessing that during drop off/pick up times it would have some heavier traffic, but otherwise it seemed like a pretty sleepy park, but had lots of fun things to do for the kids!
