Westgate Splash Pad-Glendale

After a few days of being caught in the house, I finally took 2/3rds of my child clan to Westgate for their splash pad. We had gone to Westgate many times, but usually the weather wasn’t quite right for splashing. Actually, the last time we were at Westgate was when I ran the IMS half marathon! I kind of wanted to go in the splash pad after that!

The splash area has lots of great seating around it, with umbrellas for shade. I was able to snag a chair and table up close while Munchie and Giggles played in the water. Unlike Tempe Marketplace and Desert Ridge, Westgate’s splashpad seems to have a little more life to the water. It jumps up and down and changes, sprays more, goes down real low and than shoots up.

Silly me, however, I forgot the kids water shoes, which I highly recommend. The floor is all concrete and getting from mom and dad to the splash area without shoes is a hot mess. I actually carried both kids into the area that the ground was wet and tried to instruct them to stay there. Ehh, yea, that didn’t work so well.

Bathrooms are conveniently located near the splash pad, as is lots of other food and entertainment like movies and As You Wish Pottery, which we tried out as well.

The only thing that is a bit of a drawback about Westgate is the parking. I really, really hate it. Hate is a strong word, but I really really really dislike it in an extreme fashion. I recommend staying on Glendale until you get to 93rd Avenue (so, passing Westgate if you are coming from the west, and turning into 93rd and Hanna lane. The parking lot to the East of Westgate seems a bit less congested and crowded, especially now that they are building Dave and Busters at Sunset and Westgate. However, on Game days, all bets are off for parking!

Westgate also sponsors free events in the summer for kids, with music and dancing at the Splash pad, along with concerts for adults and many special events around holidays. Check out the events for the latest!
