(This park was renamed Dick McComb City Park 2017)
They also added sunshades Fall 2017!
Finally, the new park everyone has been waiting for is opened! With a lit skateboard park (skateboards, inline skates and scooters only) a lighted basketball court, a splash pad, bathrooms, greenspace and a playground, what more could you want?
The toddler playground was an awesome site. There is a water table (eeek for the colder months) that you can shoot water down a tube, or mulch as my kids do. A tunnel slide, a few small stairs and ladders to climb and even a race track perfect for match box cars. Bring your own cars-but not your kids favorite cars. They might go missing in the mulch!
There were a few benches with trees around them, which will provide a nice shady spot in a few years. You can also see the bathrooms. In this building, there was also an area that could be used as a concession stand.
The full sized, lit basketball court!
You can see the skateboard park off in the distance, which is also lit. Lots of green space between the playground/splashpad and the skateboard park and basketball courts.
The splash pad! Here is the review: Surprise Farms Community Park Splashpad/ Dick McComb City Park
This loopy climbing thing was great for my three kids. You can also see Dimples in the background with the spinning round thing, as well as a spinny chair. Lots of things to twirl around with, if you don’t get motion sickness!
Here’s Munchie doing the monkey bars. You can’t tell from this picture, but they are at an angle for a little more challenge.
A good challenging ladder for the slide. Even Dimples gave it a whirl (he’s two and my kids LOVE climbing!)
Here is one of the swings, and this clip just seemed like a bad idea to me. The clip is very flimsy and I’m guessing won’t weather well. There was no way to adjust the strap to fit the kids, plus it didn’t even fit well onto the strap. I think it was just a “make it do” kind of thing. You don’t really need a strap on this type of swing unless you have a little one or you push them up really high. I’d be wary of depending on this strap. There were also two baby swings and a regular swing.
I am super excited that this park has been built and think it will be a great addition to Surprise, especially in the summer. As soon as that Splash Pad comes on, you know we will review it!
There is also a parking lot for easy access to the facilities on Surprise Farms Loop South (at 175th Avenue).
