Rio Vista Community Park-Peoria

I am always looking for new parks to add to the “Park Series”, so we decided to check out Rio Vista Community Park off of Thunderbird and the 101 in Peoria. There is just so much available to do at the park, but we just focused on the Playground. But, if you have older kids too, there is things for them to do too! Rio Vista Community Park has

  • An “Urban Lake” (very pretty)
  • Restrooms
  • Huge Ramada with Cooking Stations and Sinks
  • Lighted Sand Volleyball Courts
  • Playground and Tot Lot
  • Skate Park
  • Lighted Softball Fields
  • Multi Purpose Fields
  • Splash Pad
  • Recreation Center (gym, Basketball courts, 25ft rockwall, game room, racketball courts. You can even have a Birthday Party there!)
  • Linear path-paved! Great for walking/biking/roller skating/inline skating/running

The playground is towards the end of the entire park, and the bathroom was RIGHT there too! How awesome was the developer who planned that out. The park was extremely busy, so be careful of little kids and people on bikes.

Here is my attempt at a panoramic at the park! To the right is the bathrooms. It’s like a “seashell” type building. The women’s bathroom opens right to the playground, while the men’s opening is toward the other side (good planning I think!)

Does that twisty slide look tall to you? It was! I would say about two stories high, so make sure you have your little ones go to the toddler park, because that is one big slide! And, the playgrounds are both SHADED!!

Lots of climbing features in the big kids playscape. Munchie, 5 now, had no problem maneuvering this, but he is a really good climber!

There was a “spiderweb” climber (it was a little close to the parking area).

And this Rock wall climber too. And lots of sand!

This is the playscape for the little ones. Giggles, 2 1/2 had no problem on it and really enjoyed it. This slide that is to the right in the picture is a bit high.

But there was some smaller slides as well. And, it was shaded. Directly behind this area was the linear trail. There is also a fence at the back of the linear trail because the land ends and goes into the riverbed.

Baby swings are right next to the smaller playscape.

And big kid swings too!

This was a cool little “Rocketship” that the kids really enjoyed for “Dramatic play”.

IMG_5638 This is the “cooking area”. I was really amazed by this. It looked like charcoal grills and there was a place for food prep and sinks in the very center! The center “Ring” was the cooking area, and then there was another ring around this area with benches to eat. All was covered!

This was an excellent park to visit! It is a very big area, so if you have a runner (I have a few) make sure to have enough adults stationed to keep eyes on all of them, but otherwise, I highly recommend checking out this park as soon as possible! And, its only about 20 minutes from the Center of Surprise

[…] Vista Splashpad is right next to the community center (It is gorgeous)  and the Rio Vista Park. The splash pad at this park is small, but it is fenced, which has it’s benefits. […]
