As I scroll for new places to check out around the valley, this one popped up on a group and I thought it would be perfect for my kiddos! And, I was right. My kids had a blast.
The class we were attending started at 11am, and as we are extremely early risers, we got to Scottsdale and check out Paiute Park first, which is a few miles away from the studio.
Rachely’s Young at Art Studio is in a shopping plaza on Shea and 70th Street in the Scottsdale Promenade and is parallel to 70th street. The sign for the studio isn’t visible from Shea, so we had a bit of driving around to do, but once we were in the plaza I found it by the Suite number (which is #115) and following the numbers.
Once you get closer, you can definitely see the sign!
When you enter the studio, you definitely feel at home with the whimsicle designs that Rachel, the owner, has created. Rachel has a background in Art and Early Childhood education, so this was the perfect place for her to utilize both skills. The day we went they also had a little morning camp for some girls around Giggle’s age.
I love that Rachel incorporated the gate (sometimes you have runaways) and the pretend play areas. Sometimes, especially with me, one child wants to do art nonstop and another does not. There are plenty of options for creativity, and enough open space to play as well.
All the details made the area so colorful, friendly and kid inviting. The Yellow brick road, the writing on the floor (that reminded me of Winnie the Pooh) and the designs all over the walls, whether inspired by kids or painted by Rachel, were inviting. There was even a window to PAINT! Yes, you CAN paint on a window. Rachel was even telling the kids to paint on it!
I loved that there was already mess on the wall, because the area was going to get messy and I wouldn’t have to freak out if my kids missed the easel.
Even a little artistic with the bathrooms!
Here the kids were “drawing” with marbles, paint and paper! Lots of fun. You can also see in the background a play kitchen and their prep area and fridge when they have camps!
They also provided a baking soda, water and food coloring experiment!
Rachel’s Young at Art Studio has many different classes and camps and activities. My kids didn’t want to leave, but when we left we got to take all of our art HOME! A huge brown paper bag full of different projects, and many more ideas for mommy!
I highly recommend wearing clothes (for parents and children) that you don’t mind if they get painted on, dirty or messy. We LIVE in playclothes, so we had no issues. Rachel’s is perfect for all those projects you may want to attempt at home, but outside, or don’t want to attempt at all. We felt right at home and the kids had a blast using paint in different ways, playing pretend and dressing up! This place would be great for a kids party or scout workshop!
