Mellow Mushroom High Street Phoenix

After hitting MacDonald’s Ranch , we were craving a sit down meal for my mother in law’s birthday. We picked Mellow Mushroom at High Street in Phoenix because of it’s proximity and its menu selection online.

The High Street area of Phoenix is considered part of Desert Ridge. There are shops and restaurants on the lower level and apartments and condos on the upper levels.

High Street was having a food festival that I hadn’t heard about. Unfortunately, many other people hadn’t heard about it either because it was completely, utterly dead when we went. And, it is weird for me not to have heard about a festival. We went to Mellow Mushroom, known for its Pizza and casual dining atmosphere. It also has a bar, but is very family friendly.

We entered off of the patio, and quickly realized we were in the wrong place. Ooops!

The Patio was wonderful for those days you can sit out side and enjoy the weather! I was so happy to see this. As you can see, it was very empty for a Sunday (with a festival!).

Inside the restaurant was very casual with a musical theme. A bar is the central focus of the room. TVs surrounded the bar. There were a few booths, but not many. Bathrooms were at the far end of the restaurant and had changing areas for babies. A private room was available that could be closed off for private events.

musical walls

The walls had piano keys drawn all over. And, while I know this is an artist’s interpretation, it wasn’t correct and was driving me a bit insane. Can you spot what was not correct.

Menu Options

Mellow Mushroom is known for its pizza! And, it has amazing crust. Oh my goodness, the crust is awesome. I don’t eat dairy, but I chowed down on leftover crust and it was so tasty. Mellow Mushroom also has salads, calzones, hoagies (sandwiches) and desserts.

A few issues

The servers were attentive and excellent, but there were a few things that were a bit of a flop about the restaurant. Although the restaurant was empty, we were only given 2 menus for our table of 6. The reason? They only had a few menus and were running out. And, the menus were very dirty and in poor condition. Like I had stated, there were very few people in the restaurant and no one on the street, and I had to ask for more menus.

The other issue was the portion size of my salad. My husband and mother-in-law had sandwiches which were generously sized. I had a full sized entree salad with steak and the portion of greens was about the size of a side salad. It was not filling at all,and cost about 14.00.

The kids had an excellent meal. Munchie has graduated to adult meals (even though he is kind of thin, he eats a bunch so I picked at his leftovers). The service was excellent and the restaurant was very clean other than the menu issue. The food was very tasty and other than portion size and menus, we definitely would return.

Use to enjoy Buckhead restaurant in Atlanta and now sooooo glad the Campbell family opened Lynchburg store. It really lives up to reputation! Finally… the difference can be appreciated locally!
