On the East Side in Scottsdale is Playtime Oasis, which is conveniently operated inside of a toy store. Owners Sari and Sam Powazek have owned AZ Dollhouse (which “houses” Playtime Oasis) for almost 40 years. Grab a seat in their comfortable play area, enjoy some entertainment on story days or just let your kids run around and play. This play area is also for five and younger.
Ready, Set, Play in the Paradise Valley Mall is going to be a great spot for our central Phoenix friends-nicely located in the Dillard’s area of the mall, this great play space for six and younger will have them enjoying active play, quiet play and dramatic play! Grab some of your mom friends, a coffee and some snacks, and enjoy all day admission to this great play place!
Aqua Tots Surprise-The indoor pool invites children 4months and older to learn how to swim. There are “mommy and me” swim classes offered, as well as private lessons and a beginner swim team! All classes are offered inside in a climate controlled environment, with a beautiful waiting area for younger siblings and a nice seating area for caretakers!
A “wee” bit older
If you have children that may be a bit older (or have young kids with some that are just over five), here are some great places to check out for the 5-10 year olds (but good for the under five crowd too).
The Children’s Museum of Phoenix is a great spot that you can spend the whole day. With a cafe on the second floor, a huge baby and toddler area on the third floor, and a three story climbing aparatus, you can’t ask for a better way to spend the day. Target also promotes free first Friday’s (first Friday of the month) from 5-9pm. Programs and camps are also offered for additional fees, but if you are doing a staycation in the Valley during the summer, this is a must go. Occasionally there are discounts offered on Living Social and Groupon, and there is always a military discount. Groups also get discounts, so get your friends together and go as a group!
Speaking of Museums, The I.D.E.A. Museum in Mesa is a great place to go on the east Side. (Note, no longer do first Sunday’s as Target is no longer sponsoring the program at the I.D.E.A. Museum). The I.D.E.A. Museum has a great area for 5 and under, and also has craft activities for the whole family to enjoy. Discounts can often be found on Living Social and Groupon as well. You can see our review here!
We Rock the Spectrum is a great place for all kids to play, especially those who may be on the Autism Spectrum. The byline for We Rock The Spectrum is “Finally a place where you don’t have have to say I’m Sorry”. We Rock the Spectrum was great fun for our kids-there were dress up areas, places to climb, swing, and move. They even have a room for parties and classes and summer camps. Check out Groupon for deals for We Rock The Spectrum and our Review here.
Peter Piper Pizza, right in Surprise, is great for Birthday parties or the special treat. Similar to Chuck E Cheese Pizza, this location offers lots of video games and entertainment for kids. You can find discount coupons on their website, but check out our review here first!
The Play Factory in Desert Ridge is a great place for kids to get their wiggles out. If you have a toddler up to age 12, this place is great for running, bouncing, climbing and sliding. They also have text message alerts for when they are having deals! There is also a separate toddler area so that your little ones won’t get bounced around by the big kids, a few video game stations if you have a teen that is “too cool” to play a cafe, plenty of seating, wifi, video games and candy stations. Desert Ridge also has a lot of shopping available and a splashpad not too far away. See our review here!
Playgrounds Fun Zone– Located in Glendale, Playgrounds Fun Zone has a full coffee shop and cafe, which makes the coffee drinkers drool. There are lots of gross motor activities and spots for different ages in this play area. There is also lots of seating for parents! Some deals can be found on their website as well. Read our review here!
Pump it Up Peoria-Located in Peoria, Pump it up has lots of different types of bounce areas for kids of all sizes, with some challenging with slides and climbers, and some just plain old bounce areas. There is also an area that is not closed off for children (with foam puzzles) who are too young to jump or may need to take a breather! Deals can be found on their website, for groups and occasionally on Groupon or Living Social.
Makutu’s Island-Located in Chandler, Makutu’s Island is perfect for your independent age kid. There are lots of things to climb, swing on and explore. There is a baby area, but Makutu’s Island is best for those who are able to climb independently and explore. There is a cafe on site. They occasionally have Groupons and also have a Summer camp for ages 5-12.
Bling Tour Do your kids want to take a few classes for tumbling, gymnastics, dance or cheer? Or, you just want them to get out some of their energy? Bling Tour is the perfect place and is easily accessible by being right in Surprise. Located At Litchfield and Greenway Rds right behind CVS, you’ll find instructors that not only teach, but also have competed or performed professionally themselves!
Luv 2 Play in Surprise, located at Reems and Bell Rd is sure to be a hit for any kids 10 and under, and even for the parents! There is a variety of different opportunities to play, climb and interact. With a separate toddler and baby area, as well as games for everyone to play, Luv 2 Play is a place you can stay and play all day!
Jumper’s Jungle-Located right near the 101 exit for Olive Ave, this play area is great for a morning of fun or a party. I love the area and how I can see where my kids are at all time. The staff is excellent and the kids have a blast running, jumping and flying down the slides. There is even an area for toddlers to stay away from the big kids mayhem, as well as a small snack bar to purchase snacks for hungry parents and kids!
Great For Adults and kids of all ages
Halle Heart Museum in Tempe is great for a kids day out, an educational day for adults, fundraisers and so much more. This Museum is connected to the American Heart Association building and has a great place for kids and adults to learn about the heart, eating healthy and exercising. They also have events, classes (such as cooking classes) and tours. We really enjoyed our time learning about healthy eating and “shopping” at their grocery store. You can read our review here
Arizona Science Center in Phoenix is great for the whole family (and they even offer adult date nights too!) We love how big the Science Center is, and there are often discounts on Groupon and Living Social for a membership, which often is less than the cost of one visit for our whole family. There are lots of exhibits that are permanent and some that change ever few months. The planetarium is a great dark place to hang out and look at stars on a sunny hot day. A new section was added in an adjoining building to do woodworking, computer graphics and other classes. One of my kids’ favorite things is the water area! (Make sure you bring a change of clothes). There is also a cafe available on site so you can stay all day. You can see our review here.
Sky Zone is a great, clean and fun trampoline place for the whole family. They offer group team building events, homeschool days and a toddler jump area. The staff is fantastic and the area is very clean and well kept. There are dodgeball tournaments, teen nights and more. They often have deals on their site as well as on Groupon and Living Social. Check out our review here!

With a 4D movie theather (lots of special effects), classes for all ages, a Merlin’s Magic Ride and a Laser Ride, along with lots of opportunities to build and design your own Lego creations, this is the place to be! There is also a climber for the most energetic youngsters!
Sea Life Aquarium-Arizona Mills Mall is a great aquarium for the kids. The size of the aquarium is great for little ones to learn about everything in the water. There are interactive shows, the ability to interact with sea creatures and a climber at the end of the exhibits. Sea Life also offers classes, homeschool classes and groups and a camp!
The Kroc Center in Phoenix is a great place to cool down. With an outdoor splash pad, indoor basketball courts, track, workout center, climbing area, and the pool-you can’t get much cooler than this place. The Kroc Center is run by the Salvation army and named after the founders of McDonald’s, who donated money to Salvation Army in order to serve the inner city residents. You can get memberships, have parties here or even have one day passes as well!
