On the East Side in Scottsdale is Playtime Oasis, which is conveniently operated inside of a toy store. Owners Sari and Sam Powazek have owned AZ Dollhouse (which “houses” Playtime Oasis) for almost 40 years. Grab a seat in their comfortable play area, enjoy some entertainment on story days or just let your kids run around and play. This play area is also for five and younger.

A “wee” bit older
If you have children that may be a bit older (or have young kids with some that are just over five), here are some great places to check out for the 5-10 year olds (but good for the under five crowd too).
The Children’s Museum of Phoenix is a great spot that you can spend the whole day. With a cafe on the second floor, a huge baby and toddler area on the third floor, and a three story climbing aparatus, you can’t ask for a better way to spend the day. Target also promotes free first Friday’s (first Friday of the month) from 5-9pm. Programs and camps are also offered for additional fees, but if you are doing a staycation in the Valley during the summer, this is a must go. Occasionally there are discounts offered on Living Social and Groupon, and there is always a military discount. Groups also get discounts, so get your friends together and go as a group!
Speaking of Museums, The I.D.E.A. Museum in Mesa is a great place to go on the east Side. (Note, no longer do first Sunday’s as Target is no longer sponsoring the program at the I.D.E.A. Museum). The I.D.E.A. Museum has a great area for 5 and under, and also has craft activities for the whole family to enjoy. Discounts can often be found on Living Social and Groupon as well. You can see our review here!
We Rock the Spectrum is a great place for all kids to play, especially those who may be on the Autism Spectrum. The byline for We Rock The Spectrum is “Finally a place where you don’t have have to say I’m Sorry”. We Rock the Spectrum was great fun for our kids-there were dress up areas, places to climb, swing, and move. They even have a room for parties and classes and summer camps. Check out Groupon for deals for We Rock The Spectrum and our Review here.

We love how big the Science Center is, and there are often discounts on Groupon and Living Social for a membership, which often is less than the cost of one visit for our whole family. There are lots of exhibits that are permanent and some that change ever few months. The planetarium is a great dark place to hang out and look at stars on a sunny hot day. A new section was added in an adjoining building to do woodworking, computer graphics and other classes. One of my kids’ favorite things is the water area! (Make sure you bring a change of clothes). There is also a cafe available on site so you can stay all day. You can see our review here.
