Gateway Park-El Mirage

I had heard Gateway Park in El Mirage had a splash pad and was really nice, so of course we had to check it out.

Gateway Park shares a parking area with the El Mirage Police Department and is conveniently located right next to the new YMCA. It is at Peoria and El Mirage Avenues and is very easy to find.

For the bigger kids, there are baseball fields and even a skate park. IMG_6951

In the west part of the Park (nearer to the YMCA) is the splash pad. It was not open when we went. The ground is cement (wahh) and there is not much shade early in the morning.

This is on one of the pillars as you enter the splash pad from the east.

There are many different ramadas to sit at, which is great. You can see baseball games or the playground areas easily.

The bathrooms are at the eastern side of the park and are two big stalls. There is only one sink that is outside in the middle.

There is an ice cream stand/burger building south of the bathrooms. It doesn’t open until ten, but so nice and convenient! The skate park is nearby to the stand and so are the basketball courts.

I was excited to go back to this park after over a year (from first review) that the mulch situation had improved as did the care of all of the swings!

Here’s Munchie being crazy in this swing that has a magnet latch!

Here is the “Bigger kids” playground. Similar to Veteran’s Memorial Park in Tolleson, it had a lot of different things to climb through, but once again, the slide was SO far off the bottom of the ground. And, unless you are a very good climber, there is no easy way to get to this slide.

There were also two rockers in the park. Most of the rockers I have seen are plastic with ome metal. These were all metal. Giggles got onto it and was ok for a little bit, but then went back on a little while later and it was SO hot. We went at 8:30am in March. I just felt it was a bad choice of pieces to get for a park.

The bathrooms being on the opposite side from the splash pad makes it seem even more an issue, but I was happy to go back to the park and see the improvements! One plus with this park is that there is covered parking, so I will put that out there!
