Crossing the country with three kids under five, a dog and two cars

We did what some people thought was impossible.

We drove from Connecticut to Arizon in five days with three kids, a dog and two cars.

We didn’t take the scenic routes, we didn’t stop to take a look at the sights. We pushed through New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and finally Arizona. And we did it in the winter when the temps at some altitudes hovered around 0 degrees farenheit.

Give my husband and me a challenge and we will beat it.

Our roughest day was driving from Scranton, PA to Knoxville TN. It was over 600 miles. We started in the dark and we got to Tennessee in the dark. We had Ipads for the oldest two and walkie talkies for us to communicate (just in case cell service was unavailable). McDonald’s was one of the best stops we could have made, especially those with the playplaces! Those we a lifesaver when there were frigid temperatures.

We got to see some pretty amazing things as we drove, and I’m so happy that I was able to see the country. I would love to do it again when the kids get older and can understand what they are seeing. And I’d love to be in the same car as my husband so we can switch off drivers. But, all in all, it was a great trip. Tiring but pretty enjoyable considering what we had to accomplish.

[…] I decided that I wanted to try a different library this past Monday, so my kids and I dropped off our books that were due at the Northwest Regional Library and went to the Hollyhock Library. I couldn’t find out about the hours, so we just gave it a try. Hollyhock Library is closed on Mondays, and well, its a bit smaller than I thought it would be! We didn’t get to go in, so I decided we were by El Mirage so we decided to try that library. We parked the car outside and my kids saw the Bill Gentry Park behind it, so we ended up there (yes, this is life with three kids under five!). […]

  8. […] Moving sounds so exciting when you are younger. A New adventure, a new place to call home, but it can be scary. But when you are an adult, it means packing. A lot of packing. And, figuring out how to change over all your utilities. Finding a new place to call home, where the new switches in your home are in the dark. And, sometimes a lot of new friends. It can be a new adventure too, but it can be really hard. And moving across the country is not easy either. […]
